Guidelines for submission

Publication of papers is free of charge

The journal Arheologia presents articles on ancient history and archaeology from Prehistory till the Early Modern periods, publications of new materials and research results regarding sites located on the territory of Ukraine and beyond, biographic materials, reviews and chronicles. The Journal accepts articles for publishing in Ukrainian and English.

Materials published in the Journal are the subject to review by the experts in the relevant field. The reviewing process is confidential. In the event of a negative review or significant remarks the article may be rejected or returned to the author(s) for revision. If the author(s) disagrees with the expert opinion, an additional independent peer review may be appointed by decision of the Editorial Board. The article is signed for publishing upon author's revision in accordance with the comments of experts and the editorial board’s approval.

The Editorial Board is entitled to refuse publishing the manuscripts containing the previously published data, the materials not corresponding to the Journal topics, and the materials breaching the ethical standards (e.g., conflicts between authors or between authors and an organization, plagiarism, etc.). The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit and to shorten the manuscripts without disruption of the original content. The edited version of the article is approved with the author before publishing.

Preparing a paper for submission to the Arheologia journal, the author should read the guidelines for submission the manuscriots and follow them.

The manuscript shall be submitted to the Journal in digital form to the following address editors_arch@ukr.net.

The manuscript shall be appended with the following data:

1. License agreement on copyright transfer (download Agreement). The license agreement becomes effective after the approval of the article for publishing. The signing of the license agreement by author(s) means that they are familiar and agree with the terms of the agreement.

2. Information about each author: first and last name in full (including patronymic), position, place of employment, academic status, scientific degree, contact information (phone, email), ORCID code (the web page should contain up-to-date information about the author and should be full).

3. Files with text, figures, tables and information about the authors in digital format.

Formatting guidelines

1. Accepted languages of manuscripts are Ukrainian and English. The text shall be typed in MS Word editor (.doc) in 14 Times New Roman typeface, 1.5 line spacing.

2. The title page shall contain the following information:
The name(s) and initials of the author(s);
The title of the article;
Annotation contains 2-3 sentences that briefly describe the topic and purpose of the article.
Keywords shall disclose the following aspects of the submission: region, chronology, subjects, special terminology.

3. Geographical names should follow the official transcription rules. Words should not be abbreviated.

4. The maximum size of a paper is up to 3 quires.

References

1. Text citation is served in parentheses as following: (Son, Sheiko 2016, p. 79). Coma is not put before the year. If the source contains four or more authors: (Fornasier et al. 2017).

2. References are placed immediately after the text in alphabetical order and contain comprehensive information about the source.

3. List of references should include only those references cited in the text. The editors ask the authors to check the list of literature more carefully, in the absence of unnecessary items.

4. In the list of references, be sure to include both the main work on the subject and the latest sources related to the topic.

5. Self-citation should not exceed 20% of the total list of literature that meets the standards of scientific ethics.

References are formatted according to the requirements agreed by the Academica Council of the Institute of Archaeology of the NAS, Ukraine.

“Arheologia” is the official English transliteration of the Ukrainian name “Археологія” of the journal corresponding to its name registered in ISSN.

Cyrillic names of articles in References should be given in the translation used in their published abstracts.

 Abstract

The abstract of the article shall contain 1800–2000 characters. The abstract shall meet the sequential logic of description of the results and state the main objectives of the study; and summarize the most important results.

Illustrations format

1. All types of illustrations should be labeled Fig.

2. The illustrative material should be numbered continuously, without omissions or repetitions.

3. Illustrations and tables should conform to the text.

4. If illustrations bear conventional symbols, all of them should be explained in the caption. The format of references to the illustrations is the following: (fig. 1:24).

5. Illustrations must be in the TIFF or JPEG format of at least 300 dpi.

6. Tables included in the article should be submitted in the format corresponding to the technical feasibility of typographical printing. They should not exceed 40 percent of the total size of the article.

List of illustrations should be placed after the list of References.
